only two dates for the national cult group Current 93, in Ravenna will present the world premiere release of the new album, Black Ships Ate the Sky, disturbing and incredibly beautiful work on the signs in the stars, the imminent arrival of the Apocalypse Second Coming of Christ. Black Ships Ate the Sky is the long awaited sequel to the 2001 album Sleep Has His House and offers the charm by featuring some of the most intimate friends and associates of the hinge of Current 93, David Tibet, besides being the most powerful and ambitious album of the group so far. The Current 93 Durtro and (label and distribution company associated with them) were one of the most unpredictable and influential of contemporary music, creating a huge variety of music, art, painting and literature since it formed in 1984. David Tibet, describes this new album as "the one with which I approached the most in describing what I hope and feel, and love and fear." Black Ships Ate the Sky marks the beginning of a new period of activity of Tibet and Current 93, which also sees the release of Not Alone, an album five times for charity in favor of Doctors Without Borders / Medecins Sans Frontieres, a split of the 93 Current and Om entitled "Rays of Infallible Sun Inerrant / Blackship Shrinebuilder," a volume of texts collected from Tibet and Current 93 new productions of other artists and the label Durtro Jnana.
In Black Ships Ate the Sky are various investments, such as those by Michael Cashmore, a team of historians of the original line up of Current 93, responsible for some of the most beautiful and memorable music of the band, Ben Chasny of Six Organs of Admittance Steven Stapleton of Nurse With Wound and cellist John Contreras. There are also featuring vocals by many friends, such as Marc Almond, Antony, Bonnie "Prince" Billy, Andria Degens (of Pantaleimon), Baby Dee, Cosey Fanni Tutti, Clodagh Simonds (Mellow Candle of). Tibet has invited all the guests "voice" to interpret the theme song of the album, "Idumea," a song written in 1793 by Charles Wesley, brother of the founder of Methodism, Wesley James. Even the legendary English folk singer Shirley Collins was persuaded to come out of retirement to sing the closing of the album with his version of "Idumea." And the reintroduction of the Collins lovers of contemporary music was reflected in the press by the Durtro Jnana Fountain of Snow, the first compilation CD of his material Shirley has been approved for and has been personally involved. "The Current 93 lead me to another world. I understand that forever? No. And that's why I like? "Says Collins. "Maybe. E 'sense of the unattainable that is almost caught, which I find so mysterious and intriguing. And with all this, a lasting affection for David Tibet. "
In his career of more than 20 years, Tibet has been the only constant presence of Current 93, and to have the collaboration of the likes of Marc Almond, Antony (of Antony and the Johnsons), Steven Stapleton (Nurse With Wound), Chris Carter and Cosey Fanni Tutti (Throbbing Gristle and All-Carter), Michael Cashmore (Nature & Organisation), Joola Wood, Steve Ignorant (Crass), Nick Cave, Rose McDowall (Strawberry Switchblade), Tiny Tim, Björk, Shirley Collins, Bill Fay, and many others.
addition to printing the album by Current 93, Durtro put out discs of some of the favorite artists of Tibet, including Tiny Tim, Shirley Collins, Baby Dee, Antony and the Johnsons, Pantaleimon and Little Annie Anxiety. Durtro Press and its publishers have discovered and Ghost Story Press published books by authors such as Count Stenbock (of which Tibet has published the complete works), the award-winning horror author Thomas Ligotti and undeservedly neglected writers such as David Park Barnitz and LA Lewis. Have been published over 40 volumes of these beautiful hand-printed limited editions, now all sold at high prices in the market for rare books as well as the critically acclaimed bibliophiles and experts in particular literature.
Born in Malaysia in 1960, where he lived for 14 years, Tibet now resides in Hastings, near the sea in southern England, where he recorded, painted, and studied public Coptic and Koine Greek. His paintings are sold in substantial numbers and he loves his wife and their cats.
